The Northern Inland Regional Development Board (previously known as the New England - North West Regional Development Board) is an independent not-for-profit organization, funded by the NSW Department of State and Regional Development to facilitate and foster economic and regional development projects and activities in the New England North West Region of New South Wales. The Minister for Regional Development appoints the Chair and Members of the Board for a four-year term. Members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and occupations but with similar interests in regional and community development. They work to facilitate projects based on economic development principles and approach their role in a regional context.

The Board takes a strategic role in economic development in the New England North West by facilitating projects that seek to encourage investment and provide the infrastructure or information necessary for regional businesses and industries to contribute to regional development.

The Board fulfills an important leadership role, which is vital to assist communities to access information regarding funding opportunities, as well as providing a framework for regional development activity to occur in the region.

The Board covers the Local Government areas of Armidale Dumaresq, Glen Innes Severn, Gunnedah, Guyra, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Moree Plains, Narrabri, Tamworth Regional, Tenterfield, Uralla and Walcha Councils.

The Department funds the Board on an annual basis to employ an Executive Officer and meet all administration costs including Board Member's sitting fees and travel etc for meetings. The Board as an Incorporated Association applies for other government funding at a State or Federal level to implement projects of a regional nature. The projects are developed by the Board or in conjunction with other regional organisations. The Board is also able to access a "pool of funds" set aside by the Department of State and Regional Development for projects on a competitive basis with other Boards.
